Due to the vast amount of possible solutions that can come from Schrodingers equation, it is not yet valuable to discuss the few cases that we are able to successfully describe a materials science system. The equation is not fully solved for every possible case, and therefore is difficult to use to teach about materials science and explain the behavior in materials since there is still more to solve and unravel with it.
