We call quantum physics an “ab initio” model because the Dirac (or Schoedinger equation) captures the fundamental aspects of how the quantum world behaves. While it may be computationally expensive to capture it, it can be calculated (if given an infinite amount of time). E&M would be considered ab initio with Maxwell’s equations utilizing four vectors.
