Jacob’s ladder analogy is basically a series of approximations added after Hartree Fock theory. We had seen earlier that HF theory per se does not work well for solids so we need post HF methods.

So, from my understanding of the analogy, Jacob’s Ladder analogy represents post HF methods to make DFT computations easier. Which is probably, the professor wrote above the fifth rung “Heaven….chemistry”.
