“… without experiments, using only computation” is certainly possible–so yes, I agree–especially with the growth and availability of computing power. With an increasing audience combining quantum mechanics calculations with machine learning optimizations, the time to materials discovery should decrease while the new discoveries should increase. This dream is becoming reality now. I think we are 5-10 years from when this becomes the standard way of research and discovery.
