Quantum-based material’s computation is a simulation activity because it tries to reproduce reality inside a computer by using the theory of quantum physics. It is not actually developing a new theory rather it is applying the theory. I think people think of computation physics to be equivalent to theoretical physics because people think of scientists to be theoretical or experimental, and computational physicists are not experimentalists.
