ParticipantHello!
I’m Jie, a doctoral student from Aalto University. I have been to Finland for four months. I’d like to say Finland’s summer is so beautiful. Wonderful weather, cozy temperature, and close to nature. You bet you will love it if you try.
For me, I changed my major from electronic information engineering to physics. My research topic now is mainly on applying machine learning methods to computational physics. However, I don’t have much experience in density functional theory calculations. I want to know the basic concepts and methods of DFT calculations. I know this course will be not easy for me. But I want to take this challenge.
Hope you have a wonderful journey.
Kind regards,
Jie

ParticipantHi Jie! Great to see some northern Europe expats here, how’ve you been?
Your engineering major sounds very interesting, and it’s nice to hear there are other students for whom this class may be a β rewarding π β challenge. Look forward to studying with you!September 19, 2023 at 6:17 am #8907amprisim

ParticipantHi Jie,
I will start working at Aalto soon, good to know from your feelings about Finland. Not sure how the Winter will be there. All my friends told me that it would be very boring,π€£ I am a bit social phobia, worrying if I can make friends there. Do you have any recommendations for the sport club or community? It would be great if you could reply to me. Also looking forward to studying this course with you.π

ParticipantHi, Nan. Nice to meet you here and welcome. Yeah, I came this May, and people told me that I’ve chosen the best time of the year. So I don’t have any winter experience π . I believe you can make many friends here. You just need to be yourself and find the communities you are interested in. I didn’t join any club now because I am not ready for this. Most things are new to me, I need some time to get used to it. So I think I am the one with social phobiaπ . You will find out everything when you come, so relax. Life here will be fun and meaningful. By the way, happy Mid-Autumn Festival if you happen to celebrate this day. π
