    A large number of atoms or molecules that are bound to each other, which don’t move away very far from their average position, excluding translation and rotation of the whole system. Typically solids align in a lattice.

    I think we should replace ‘atoms or molecules’ by ‘nuclei and electrons’. The part about the motion from there position corresponds to obeying the equations of motion
