When we start from some “fundamental equation” (which depends on the scale and phenomena) we say it’s from first principles. For classical mechanics it’s Newton’s equation of motion. For charged particles it might only be the coulomb force, it might be Maxwell’s equations. For quantum mechanics it’s Schrödinger’s equation and for general relativity it’s Einstein’s field equation. These are all ab initio.
