    The basic idea of ab initio model is to perform prediction from first principle without empirical data. This should be possible both in the case of classical and quantum mechanics. I think that Electromagnetism too, considering Maxwell equation, can be considered an ab initio model. For instance one can assign the right initial and boundary condition and simulate the dynamics of light in a optical system .
