An ab initio model cannot be reduced further to more fundamental concepts. As solid state physics and particles all follows the rule of quantum mechanics, the equations and bases of quantum mechanics will be the ab initio model. Similarly, classical mechanics will be the ab initio model for phenomenon that can be explained fundamentally by Newton’s laws and equations; like an apple falling from the tree or celestial bodies following Kepler’s laws. But if we consider phenomenon near light speed or the motions of celestial objects or particles classical mechanics would not be the the ab initio model.
Thus classical electrodynamics can be an ab initio model in the classical electromagnetic phenomenon. Here, Maxwell’s equations of electrodynamics will serve as the first principles. But this will also breakdown when dealing with quantum electrodynamics and phenomenon regarding the charges of quarks.
