Classical and quantum mechanics are models that strive to explain everything within their field of relevance through some basic equations, be it Schrodinger’s equation or Newton’s laws. In the case of electromagnetism, all properties related to the electromagnetic interaction are to be explained by Maxwell’s laws, so it is also ab initio.
