The need for the different definition of correlation between a clasical system and a quantum system arises from the fact that in a quantum system the manybody wave funcion can be rewritten in two different ways. When the product of every single particle is taken, then is that the Hartree method. And the Hartree-Fock method is when you use the best Slater determinant.
