“The design of new materials from thought”, i.e. without experiments, using only computation will be very useful as it can help to carry out the experiments more efficiently and judiciously. However, the computations must be based on some assumptions from the experimental findings. I agree that computation and experimentation should go hand in hand. This is because materials engineering using computation can save a lot of time, energy, and resources by giving a direction towards the best way to carry out the experiments. It is very much realistic as many researchers now adopt this method to predict and sometimes validate the experimental findings.
