In quantum mechanics, there are exchange between the Hartree solution and the Hartree-Fock solution, and correlation between the Hartree-Fock solution and the exact solution. While in classical mechanics, there is only a correlation between independent particle solution and exact solution. The extra exchange energy in quantum mechanics is due to the electron-electron interactions not fully distinguished in the Hartree-Fock solution.
