Hi all,
My name is Óscar, and I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Materials Physics Center in Donostia, Spain. This is a awesome place to visit specially in summer if you are a surf lover, coinciding with a plenty of courses and congresses in condensed matter physics.
My PhD addressed the study of topological insulators, nodal semimetals and states in intrinsic topological order from a theoretical perspective, combining techniques from high-energy physics and Bloch state theory, and one of the main topics was the characterization of optical responses in these exotic materials. I am currently interested in optical phenomena associated to small spatial inhomogeneities of electromagnetic fields, which requires to go beyond the common electric-dipole approximation, and provides useful information about the broken symmetry structure of materials. I expect to acquire in this course the basics of ab initio methods, which will constitute a fundamental tool to describe these optical responses in realistic models of materials.
