Hello everyone, my name is Eric and I am currently in Houston, Texas in America. Houston, TX is considered the most diverse city in the US, and our food reflects it. You can dine on any budget on any cuisine and have a great experience.
I have a PhD in Solid-State Chemistry, currently I am a postdoctoral fellow, and I’m generally interested in the synthesis and crystal growth of new functional compounds. I have previously used DFT methods at a light level to help understand reaction energetics and electronic structure. I hope to use the lessons of this course to better understand my new compounds with the power of DFT methods. Additionally, my current work has a scarcity of experimental details published, and I believe DFT could be a powerful ally in investigating trends and targets.
In the future I am hoping to start my own research lab and integrate DFT to support and predict experiment. I expect this course to give me a deeper understanding of computational methods that I can pass on to future synthetic chemists to change the long-held paradigm of ‘shooting in the dark’ materials discovery.
