Hello, my name is Florian and I am currently doing my PhD in Groningen in the Netherlands, which is also the city I take this course from. Groningen is a really nice, typically Dutch city with lovely canals and friendly people, so you should definitely pay a visit when you are in the Netherlands.
I’m following this course because DFT calculations will be part of my PhD research on the atomic-scale behavior of iron, including grain boundaries and fracture. Therefore, I hope to get a good overview of the theory, methods and tools used for up-to-date DFT calculations and be able to employ those in the long term for my project. And last but not least, I have been fascinated by quantum mechanics for a long time now. Therefore, I’m happy to get the chance to get a better understanding of this hard-to-grasp scientific field through this course.
