The KS equations without the exchange-correlation function are easy to solve, but we lose a tremendous amount of information. Fortunately, we know exactly what information, exact exchange and correlation. How we get this information, we do not know. Jacob’s ladder gives us a blueprint of the steps to go through to get the exact function. It gives ‘bite-sized’ chapters in the development of DFT. and with each rung we get closer to the exact result.
