The materials project database seems like a really good starting place – almost like an encyclopedia for properties of different materials. I think from there a lot of good ideas can be generated using computers. I also don’t think that computers can/will replace the creativity of human thought and innovation. But they can give us a fantastic starting place in a fraction of the time.
