Hi, my name is Wout Stoffels. I am a Master’s student in Physics in Ghent. It’s a beautiful city with many historical buildings. I am really excited to learn more about material simulations and hope to discover how to accurately simulate many material properties. In fact, last semester I wrote something of a simulation program for scattering experiments for a programming course, but the solid-state side of the project turned out to be a bottomless pit of complexity and I ended up making very gross approximations.

It was interesting to read your description of the physics behind your simulation program! I was once in a similar situation too. I hope this course will help both of us learn and maybe find some bottom to the pit!
