To study the solar system using DFT and the Kohn-Sham method, we would treat the mass density ρ(r) of the planets and the Sun as analogous to the electron density in traditional DFT. The gravitational potential Φ(r) would be derived from this mass density. We would then solve Kohn-Sham-like equations, where the complex interactions between planets are replaced with a simpler system of non-interacting bodies that reproduce the same gravitational mass density, allowing us to approximate the system’s total gravitational energy efficiently.
