Quantum physics is an ab-initio theory which describes the structure of matter using the Schrodinger equation. Atomic structure of materials can be determined through the equations of quantum physics with those equations. Classical mechanics is similarly an ab initio model for determining particle dynamics from the equations of Newton as is classical electrodynamics through the Maxwell equations.
