The axioms are known and the equations can in theory be solved, but the algorithms for these solutions are too intensive. However, these algorithms are becoming more efficient and the hardware is becoming faster, which will make it possible to use quantum physics for materials science just like classical mechanics can be used for predicting the motion of an object.
