It is possible to argue that quantum-based material calculations are simulations by showing that they use numerical methods to solve the quantum mechanics equations instead of analytical solutions. The opposite view may be held by those who believe quantum mechanics is a theoretical field in which mathematical equations predict the behaviour of subatomic particles. Since quantum-based calculations employ numerical methods and computation techniques, they are simulations.

    2. Quantum mechanics may be viewed differently by those who believe it is merely mathematical equations used to forecast the behaviour of subatomic particles. The methods and techniques for solving these equations, which constitute a simulation of quantum-based materials, may be unfamiliar to them.
