Quantum-based material’s calculations use the established formal system (quantum mechanics, quantum many-body mechanics) to simulate materials, which are used to inform, predict, or cooborrate experiment. The process of making these calculations does not involve creating new formulas describing forces, which is the activity of the theorist. Many people may intuitively consider material calculations to be theory because it is not grounded in experiment.
