    The matter that we see in our everyday life falls into one of 3 different categories : solid, liquid and gas. The main difference between these phases is the type of interactions between parts (atoms, molecules, ions etc.). Weak interactions lead to a gas, while strong interactions define properties of a solid, so a solid is a collection of strongly interacting and bonded parts.
