Why do we call quantum physics an ab initio model?
Because it is a model that describe the natural phenomena and it is a model that cannot be further reduced to more fundamental concepts.

Is classical electromagnetism an an ab initio model (and if it is one, what are its first principles)?
I think so, but I am not sure what are its first principle
